The Metro Detroit car dealership had its license revoked after violations

LIVONIA, MI – Michigan officials on Wednesday revoked a Detroit-area car dealer’s license to sell used cars as new, according to the Michigan Secretary of State’s Office.

According to officials, LaFontaine Motors of Livonia, located at 34715 Plymouth Road in Livonia, had its license revoked for numerous violations of the Michigan Vehicle Code, including falsifying documents to lease used vehicles as new vehicles.

The dealership is also known as LaFontaine Hyundai of Livonia.

Other violations that the dealership committed, according to officials, included:

  • It falsely claimed that a customer had not taken delivery of a vehicle in order to lease it as a new vehicle to another customer
  • Falsely certifying a vehicle as new on an MDOS title and registration application
  • Make a used vehicle look like new
  • There is not an immediate title with properly completed odometer information
  • Failing to complete the MDOS Application for Title and Registration
  • A provisional registration is not issued properly
  • Do not apply for title and registration on behalf of a buyer within 21 days of vehicle delivery

Officials also said the dealership’s employees continued to violate state law even after the state office repeatedly explained to them what constitutes a vehicle as “used” under the Michigan Vehicle Code.

Officials said the violations posed an ongoing imminent threat to the public health, safety or welfare and required emergency action.

The State Department is considering turning the case over to the attorney general for possible criminal investigation.

Officials urged consumers who have a complaint against LaFontaine Motors of Livonia to call the Office of Investigative Services’ motor vehicle complaint line at 844-372-8356.
