The most expensive find ever at Storage Wars worth more than £5.9 million | Television & Radio | Showbiz and television

Storage Wars is arguably one of the wildest reality shows on the small screen.

The series follows a group of thrift dealers who bid on abandoned storage units that are three months behind on their rent. After getting their hands on the keys, the stars search through the trash for valuable items and resell them for a profit.

A big part of its appeal lies in the motley crew of stars who clash with one another with a unique chemistry that any network sitcom would go to war for.

As fans celebrate the American reality show’s 14th anniversary, we take a look back at one of the long-running show’s most expensive finds.

If you sign up for the show, you can expect to take home a few grand afterward, but many don’t expect that you’ll be millionaires by the end of the show.

However, one lucky person managed to walk away with almost £6million after discovering a bag full of supplies in a holdall.

Storage Wars host Dan Dotson, who also serves as auctioneer during the show, explained that he initially didn’t think much of the lot before the owner discovered the hidden treasure.

The owner was able to turn £378 into £5.9 million and apparently made a big profit from the once-in-a-lifetime discovery.

Unfortunately, the lucky buyer was unable to keep most of the money when the unit’s previous owners found out about the incident.

Dotson explained that a woman approached him and told him that her husband had purchased a unit from him that contained a safe with unknown contents.

The lady explained that the couple hired experts to crack the safe and reveal its contents. When they managed to open it, they found a staggering pile of almost £6 million in cash.

He explained: “Then mysteriously they received a call from a lawyer representing the people who had lost the money and goods in the unit.

“They offered $600,000 (£473,200), then doubled it to $1.2 million (£957,600) and gave them $1.2 million in return. I estimate they gave them back $6.3 million (£4.9 million).”

Unfortunately, the stunning episode never aired as the drama even took place on a non-filming day. However, there have been many spectacular catches over the years, including $2,000 (£1,500) tickets containing half a million dollars worth of gold coins.
