The New Jersey Devils need to make a trade soon to keep the team in contention

Let’s be serious: Several things about this current New Jersey Devils team may be true. Firstly, they are very talented and much better than last year’s team. Another reason is that forward depth is blatantly poor. Some players are not performing as well as they should, others are suffering from injuries.

It is imperative that general manager Tom Fitzgerald makes a trade for a center fielder sooner rather than later. There are several questions associated with such a statement. Who should they act for? Who or what will they send back in this trade?

The Devils currently have just under $1 million in available cap space. To make a big splash, they’ll have to give up some money, which likely means moving a player who’s been with the team for a few years. Many of you will think of the same person, but can it really be that simple?

The person many would consider is a certain high-priced forward who many believe didn’t live up to his big free agent deal. There are valid criticisms here, but it’s more than that.

What if that’s too easy? That could mean it’s not right. Sometimes the simple decision is the wrong one.

You’ll have to stay tuned to Pucks and Pitchforks and wait for the next post to be published to see exactly which trade actually makes more sense than one that involves spending a certain amount of big money on a game changer. This will also involve some collaboration with other Pucks and Pitchforks authors. This topic is too important.

Are you upset? Good. Patience is a much-needed virtue and the wait will be worth it when the time comes for this next piece. LGD!
