The only consistent thread of trumpism

Here is a long but excellent article below about why highly intelligent people can easily convince themselves of obviously stupid and deeply destructive things. In this article, which I came across a few years ago, explains that they only convince themselves better what they want to believe instead of what is true, and the bladder in which they live is constantly increasing the beliefs that are deeply embedded in their mind. I think only a sensitive AI who understands this about people can save us from self -destruction. Some extracts below from the article:

“This means that intelligent people, although unintelligent people are led more easily by other people, are easier to mislead themselves.

In AI research there is a concept called “orthogonality thesis”. This is the idea that an intelligent agent cannot simply be intelligent. It has to be intelligent in a little intelligent, because intelligence is nothing more than the effectiveness with which an agent pursues a goal. Rationality is intelligence to pursue objective truth, but intelligence can be used to pursue any number of other goals. And since the means with which the goal is selected differentiates from the means with which the goal is pursued, the intelligence service with which the agent pursues its goal is not a guarantee that the goal itself is intelligent.

In this case, human intelligence developed less as an instrument for the persecution of objective truth as an instrument for persecution of personal well -being, belonging to the affiliation, social status and gender, and this often required the assumption of what I described as “fashionable irrational beliefs” (FIBS) that was convinced.

“Why clever people believe stupid things.”

Intelligence is not rationality.
