The Pittsburgh Steelers could make NFL history with a win over the Bengals

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Mike Tomlin can make NFL history if they can beat the Cincinnati Bengals on the road. Pittsburgh hasn’t had a losing season as a franchise since 2003, and if they beat the Bengals and go 9-3, it would be their 21st straight season.

That would put the Dallas Cowboys on par, who had the same winning streak from 1965 to 1985 under legendary coach Tom Landry. The Patriots, led by Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, achieved the feat of 19 consecutive undefeated seasons from 2001 to 2019.

It would also extend Tomlin’s personal streak of undefeated seasons. Landry holds the record with 21 consecutive seasons, Belichick has 19. With the win over the Bengals, Tomlin would make it 18 consecutive seasons.

While such a pattern of consistency is admirable, the Steelers were also looking to win a playoff game for the first time since 2017. Team president Art Rooney II made that clear.

“We’ve had enough of this,” Rooney said. “It’s time to get some wins; It’s time to take these next steps.”

The Steelers are atop the AFC North and can extend their division lead with a win in Cincinnati.
