The Samsung Galaxy S25 launch event could include the unveiling of the long-awaited smart glasses

After months of rumors and leaks, as well as teases from Samsung itself, the company may finally be ready to unveil its next wearable: its long-awaited smart glasses. And they could be revealed alongside the Samsung Galaxy S25 in early 2025.

That’s according to new information from Korean broadcaster Yonhap News (translated from Korean), which says the glasses will be unveiled at an Unpacked event scheduled to take place in January.

While Samsung has not yet confirmed that such an event is taking place, other rumors point to a date of January 23, 2025 (via Android Police), and that timing would line up with Samsung’s showcase schedule from previous years – which is usually when it starts year with an Unpacked focused on its new flagship phones.

However, Samsung will reportedly also unveil its smart glasses alongside its S25 phones, but they won’t hit the market immediately. Instead, the prototype will give us a taste of what’s to come when full specifications are revealed later. Yonhap News says they are actually expected to arrive in the third quarter of 2025 (July/August/September), but given the delays we’ve apparently faced so far, it wouldn’t shock us if the launch was pushed back later into 2025.

As with all rumors, we should take these details with a grain of salt. We’ve been waiting patiently for an update on Samsung’s Samsung will miss the self-imposed deadline, but hopefully not by much.

What will Samsung release?

Samsung’s smart glasses have taken various forms based on the information shared with us through leaks. At some point it should apparently be a full-fledged Samsung XR headset like the Meta Quest 3 or (more appropriately) the Apple Vision Pro. Samsung reportedly went back to the drawing board after launching the Apple headset, with the idea of developing XR glasses instead floating around.

It was unclear whether alternatives to the Meta Orion AR glasses prototype or something simpler like the Xreal Air 2 AR glasses were being developed, but rumors have been growing lately that the device is an alternative to the Ray-Ban meta smart glasses.

A leak suggests that they will have basically identical hardware, with the Samsung glasses having a Qualcomm AR 1 chipset, a 12MP camera sensor and a 155mAh battery capacity, and weighing 50g – compared to the 154 mAh battery of the Meta glasses and a weight of 48 g. None of the glasses have their own display.

A key difference is that Samsung’s smart glasses would rely on Google Gemini instead of Meta AI for their AI functionality.

Of course, these are just rumors and speculation for now, and we don’t yet know how Samsung’s smart glasses will develop or whether they will even come to market. But even at this perhaps less impressive level compared to what was originally announced, Samsung’s specs sound pretty exciting and could lead to an upheaval in our best smart glasses rankings.
