The Schuyler County Substance Use Meeting is coming up

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WETM) – Schuyler County residents are invited to an upcoming event to learn about the prevalence of substance use in the county.

The Schuyler County Coalition on Minority Drinking and Drugs (SCCUDD) will host a free public event focusing on drug use rates on Tuesday, December 3rd from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Schuyler County Watkins Glen High School cafeteria young people.

“Since our first survey in 2013, we have seen a dramatic decline in youth drug use rates, and we want to keep that momentum going,” said Jill Kasprzyk, Schuyler County Public Health Director. “We hope community members will come to the event to learn more about this important issue and provide input on the direction the coalition should take in the coming year.”

This event will feature guest speakers from the Schuyler County District Attorney’s Office, Schuyler County Public Health and the Schuyler County Juvenile Bureau. This will also include light refreshments and an opportunity for community members to voice their opinions on the direction SCCUDD should take in the coming year.

The SCCUDD was funded until last September by a 10-year grant from the federal Drug-Free Communities Support Program. The organization will celebrate the successes achieved over the last decade and inform the public about the current state of the drug problem in the county at this event.

The SCCUDD is a group of community members, businesses and agencies working together to prevent drug, alcohol and tobacco use among youth in Schuyler County so they can become happy and healthy adults. The group accomplishes this by collaborating with community partners, promoting prevention education, promoting drug-free activities and more.
