The search continues for two people, days after the car went off the road near Malibu

Authorities are still searching for one of the three people who were in a car that went off a road near Malibu over the weekend.

According to California Highway Patrol officials, the accident occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday. They say they received a call the day after the actual crash saying “Crash Reported Late.”

“The reporting party was a passenger in the vehicle and there were two other occupants who were missing,” the CHP statement said. “The reporting party claimed he exited the vehicle and walked to a nearby street where he was picked up, but never heard from the other two occupants in the vehicle.”

Officers responded to the scene and found the car, a white Cadillac Escalade, which had flown approximately 1,000 feet over the side of Deer Creek Road in unincorporated Ventura County.

When they arrived at the scene, they said no one had heard anything from the driver of the car or the other passenger.

Although a “full search and rescue team” was deployed to search the area for the other people, which included members of the Ventura County Fire Department, Oxnard Fire Department and Marine Fire Department, no other people were found.

The road where the accident occurred is nearly 10 miles up the Pacific Coast Highway from Trancas Canyon, where the road is narrow and the cliffs are steep.

“When the car left the road it was just coming around the curb. “Obviously he didn’t clear the curb properly and he just started rolling off to the right,” CHP Officer Ryan Ayala said.

They say the man suffered some arm injuries and seatbelt abrasions, but that his survival was nothing short of miraculous. Investigators are still unclear why it took so long for the man to report the accident.

“I don’t want to speculate about why he didn’t call,” Ayala said. “The reason he didn’t call was because he couldn’t reach her the next day.”

The man gave the names of the other passengers in the SUV as he exited, but after knocking on the door of their apartment, officers managed to “speak to no one.”

Their investigation is still ongoing. They say the Cadillac’s license plate is from another state, so they’re still trying to figure out who owns the vehicle.
