The Star Wars original trilogy and Rogue One are heading to another streaming service in the UK

Star Wars’ Original trilogy and Villain One will soon have a temporary second streaming home in the UK, which could serve to make Disney+ even more successful as a streaming service. Since its launch in 2019, Disney+ has been the exclusive streaming home for the galaxy far, far away for both star Wars Movies and shows, including original content created for the streamer to gain more subscribers over time. However, this is no longer the case this December.

As reported by DigitalSpythe original trilogy of star Wars Movies and 2016s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will air temporarily on UK channel ITV2 in December and will also be available to stream on ITVX. So this has interesting potential to make Disney+ even more successful. Essentially, a problem with content streaming exclusively on Disney+ is the loss of distribution revenue – a key way films and series make money. So it seems like Disney has found a solution to maintain profitability.

What this new approach means for Star Wars and Disney+

A potential means of attracting new subscribers

Streaming services like Disney+ require new and original content to retain its subscribers. This results in having to spend more money simply to retain its audience and hopefully attract new consumers. Combined with Disney’s subsequent slowdown in new content creation, There’s a new challenge when it comes to maintaining Disney+’s profitability, one that may be resolved with what’s happening in the UK.

“Disney not only gets a new source of revenue, but could also attract new subscribers to Disney+ in the long term…”

Offering time-limited distribution deals for select portions of normally exclusive content to reach non-subscribers seems like a smart marketing move. This not only gives Disney a new source of income, but could also attract new subscribers to Disney+ in the long term. This could be particularly true in the case of Villain One when considering its spin-off series Andor.

Our opinion on whether Star Wars should be available on other streaming services

It’s a pretty smart move

Skywalker Saga-1

Rogue Ones Spin-off series Andor is a more serious and grounded show compared to others star Wars shows on Disney+. Likewise, the show could certainly be identified as a series for those whose tastes may prohibit subscribing to the streamer on which it runs exclusively. This idea would explain why Andors The initial reception from the fan base seemed more lukewarm, but has actually improved over time as the show’s reputation grew.
