The state of Georgia falls within Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, AL –The Georgia State women’s basketball team got a 25-point performance off the bench, but fell 98-49 on the road to the Alabama Crimson Tide on Monday.

Mahogany Matthews led the Panthers (5-4) with five points and four steals. Mikyla Tolivert also added 10 points and Mya Williams also contributed eight points and two steals.

How it happened

After taking a 5-4 lead, Georgia State went on a 6-0 run with 7:12 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three-pointer by Matthews, to extend its lead to 11-4. The Panthers then gave up that lead and went into the second quarter with a 19:15 lead.

The Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and were down 50-27 at halftime.

Alabama continued to extend its lead after halftime, building a 68-29 lead before Georgia State went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Kaleigh Addieto cut its deficit to 68-36 with 3:36 left in the third period. Alabama countered and extended its lead to 77-37 in the fourth period. Georgia State played well near the basket, scoring six of its 10 points in the game.

Alabama continued to extend its lead in the fourth period, building a 91-41 lead before Georgia State went on a 5-0 run to finish with a 5-0 victory Cheyenne Hollomans Springer to reduce the deficit to 91:46 with 5:13 minutes left in the contest. Alabama responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the game, finishing the game with a final score of 98-49. Georgia State capitalized on its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its 12 points in the game.
