The Titans could make an urgent move that will have a significant impact on Will Levis’ future

The Tennessee Titans have won just three games so far in 2024 and find themselves in a strange position as they wrap up the regular season and continue to work toward the future. They are coming off a defeat when they were dominated by the Washington Commanders, but have shown promise of late.

They only have five games left to determine whether Will Levis — who they selected in the second round of last year’s NFL Draft out of Kentucky — has shown enough to take over as their franchise QB and continue to develop him.

Levis has shown tremendous growth since returning from an injury that resulted in him having to learn from the bench. In his final four games as the Titans’ starting signal-caller, he threw seven touchdowns and just two interceptions while averaging over 240 passing yards per game.

At times, Levis can seem unpredictable and inexperienced, and some plays from earlier this year went viral online because they looked so bad from an NFL quarterback’s perspective. Then there are other moments, many of which have happened in the last four weeks, in which Levis appears to be in complete control of the offense, showing off his ability to extend plays with his legs and find receivers on the run, and connecting with his pass catchers with perfect deep balls and accuracy.

But in a draft that includes some impressive quarterbacks like Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, the Tennessee Titans have five games to decide whether Levis is their guy.

They will almost certainly have a top ten draft pick (and it could be in the top five), which would put them in prime position to draft a quarterback.

But signing a first-round rookie — or a rookie picked in the first four or five rounds — would be a clear sign that the Titans’ coaching staff doesn’t believe in Levis and wants a young signal-caller to become a franchise Team QB developed.

This offseason, the Titans made significant moves to add Levi’s talents by signing WRs Calvin Ridley, Tyler Boyd and RB Tony Pollard as offensive weapons. Still, the Tennessee Titans have the 29th ranked offense in the NFL, averaging less than 300 yards per game and only 23 touchdowns on the season. Only the Giants and Patriots have found the end zone less so far in 2024.

Two weeks ago, the Titans pulled off a 32-27 upset over the Houston Texans – a team that is desperate to play in January. Levis played great, finishing the game 18 of 24 for 278 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

If the Titans want to truly evaluate Levis for the remainder of this season and make an informed decision at the end of the year, there is one move they should make now to help their young quarterback, according to Bleacher Report.

They believe the Titans now need to extend WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, who has developed a clear connection with Levis and has been playing great lately.

The Titans don’t have much to play for in 2024. One of the best things they could do would be to lock up a young player who has been a difference maker this season to ensure he stays off the market. Westbrook-Ikhine has quietly scored at least one touchdown in seven of the last eight games this season.

If Tennessee chooses Will Levis at quarterback, they should also try to keep a guy who clearly has chemistry with them. An extension before the end of the season would be a gesture of goodwill that would also remove a need from the offseason checklist.
