The United States is “certainly not the greatest democracy in the earth”.

The Constitution of the United States was written almost 240 years ago and laid the foundations for an independent, successful, democratic country. But like most laws of the nation, it was written by and for wealthy white men.

Simply put, the US right system is in a way both outdated and discriminatory – especially if it is either attacked or armed by Donald Trump. It is exactly the problem that Elie MystalLawyer, author and judicial correspondent The nation Magazine, Tackles in his new book, Bad law: ten popular laws that ruin America.

He tells Mehdi in the video above, “We are certainly not the greatest democracy on earth. I am not sure whether we are in the top 10, and this is because our laws as we have, as intended. The problem is that they should act as racist, sexist and anti -democratic.”

He expressly aims at the laws to register voters and explains, and explains “Our system, to force people to register in advance, is only there for the oppression of the voters, and it was not even endemic for the country. The voter registration laws in this country only became after the civil war when they had an influx in the north of the newly released enslaved Africans and an influx of European immigrants.”

“It was for the suppression of voters, not for the security of the voters,He adds.

Mystal also hears the way in which large law firms like Paul Weiss have rolled up In view of threats and intimidation of the Trump government.

“I am deeply sad about the cowardice that we see from the country’s elite law firms because these are people who can protect themselves the most from Donald Trump.” He tells Mehdi. “You have the power to assert yourself against him. You are too snow and are afraid of doing this.”
