The trade winds continue to blow around the New York Rangers and according to the Spittin Chiclets, Rangers captain Jacob Trouba is likely on the move and could be headed to the Edmonton Oilers.

It’s no secret to Oilers fans and other fans across the NHL that the Oilers are looking for a significant improvement in their defense.

The team has been criticized for its poor defensive play and poor goaltending, which has prevented the Oilers from moving up the table.

A player like Trouba may be just the player the Oilers need, as he tends to play with nimbleness, physicality and the ability to take on the opponent’s most talented players.

The Rangers had no qualms about moving Trouba for several months now.

Over the summer, general manager Chris Drury made it clear that he was willing to move Trouba when rumors of a possible deal with the Detroit Red Wings arose, but they never materialized.

Drury has also made it clear that he wants to revamp his roster as he feels the team’s chemistry and composition is not working and the team has fallen down in the standings, having been the NHL’s best team last year.

Trouba’s contract could prove to be an issue as he currently has an AAV of $8 million and has two years left on his contract.

For a trade to be completed, there is a money-in-money-out situation or a possible third party steps in to help take away some of the cap hit to make the deal work.

The Oilers have plenty of draft capital and some talented players in their minor system in Bakersfield that could help the Rangers, including Matthew Savoie.

The addition of Trouba would also take some of the disappointment away after the Oilers lost Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway to a tender list that has hurt the Oilers in terms of their depth and speed.

A deal of this magnitude early in the season is fairly rare, but with Drury’s determination and the Oilers’ need for change, a deal could happen sooner rather than later.
