These New Jersey cities have been named the top Thanksgiving road trip destinations

Three New Jersey cities have been named among the 125 best destinations for a family road trip this Thanksgiving by Florida-based auto retailer Gunther Motor Company.

To create this Turkey Trails list, Gunther Motor Company conducted an online panel survey of 3,000 respondents based on age, gender and geography. The data sets were obtained from internal data sources. A two-step process was used to ensure representativeness through stratified sampling and post-stratification weighting.

While New Jersey didn’t make the top 10, three cities made the list: Fort Lee at No. 47, Vineland at No. 68 and Lambertville at No. 90.

Fort Lee

At #46 comes Fort Lee, a historic community on the eastern border of Bergen County. The community sits directly on the Hudson River and offers views of the New York City skyline.

To enjoy these spectacular views, visit Fort Lee Historic Park, located on the Palisades south of the George Washington Bridge and overlooking a reconstructed Revolutionary War encampment. In the park you can see the visitor center and museum, a reconstructed 18th-century soldier’s cabin and campground, and reconstructed gun batteries.

If you want to explore the city, Fort Lee is a great place to stay as its location allows for a quick trip to New York City, the perfect place for a vacation getaway.

Vineland

Vineland in Cumberland County ranked No. 68 on the Turkey Trails list. Located southwest of Philadelphia, Vineland has been described as “the most garden-rich city” in New Jersey and named one of the best places to live in the state.

The city has 18 parks and recreation areas, including Parvin State Park, which offers two lakes, campgrounds, cabins and miles of forest trails. History buffs can tour the “Palace of Depression,” a historic home once known as “the strangest house in the world.” Vineland is home to the only drive-in theater in the state. The city offers several shopping and dining options.

If you’re looking for a way to explore the city, Philadelphia is less than an hour’s drive away. Vineland is also accessible by car from the Jersey Shore.

Lambertville

Lambertville in Hunterdon County, named one of the most picturesque small towns and one of America’s most beautiful cities by USA TODAY and Forbes, landed at No. 90 on the list of best places for a Thanksgiving road trip.

“The Industrial Revolution transformed Lambertville from an agricultural economy to a center for manufacturing, trade and transportation and rediscovered as a regional destination,” the city’s website says. “Lambertville prides itself on its natural beauty and small-town friendliness.”
