It’s officially Christmas time and with it comes the most iconic Christmas song: “All I want for Christmas is you”Mariah Carey’s festive family favorite. It has become so popular that the singer has become synonymous with the holiday and her song is still widely played almost three decades after its initial release.

The 1994 Christmas classic is so popular that it represents a lucrative source of income for Carey every yearprimarily due to the license fees owed to it for use by third parties.

This is what a New York Post report estimated She earns around $3 million every year from the song. In 2021 this was claimed Carey has raised more than $60 million of “All I Want For Christmas is You” and she continues to benefit from the track.

Thanks to the song, she also has numerous sponsorship relationships. In 2021, to mark the 25th anniversary of her Christmas album, Carey starred in the festive advert for Walkers Chips.

Carey’s song was beaten to No. 1 for the holiday season by Bing Crosby

While “All I Want For Christmas is You” may be the most well-known Christmas song, it is not the best-selling Christmas song. This honor goes to Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas”which sold an estimated 50 million copies.

This makes it not only the best-selling Christmas song, but is also in the Guinness Book of Records as the best-selling single of all time.

Crosby actually holds the top two spots in the all-time Christmas song rankings. His 1978 version of “Silent Night” is in second place with more than 30 million copies sold on the list.

In a fairly distant third are Mariah Carey and “All I Want For Christmas is You,” a now six-times platinum single. It has achieved more than 16 million sales worldwide. This makes it the 12th highest-grossing single of all time.
