Three dead, one injured after car hits snowplow | Daily Democrat, Fort Madison, Iowa

WASHINGTON COUNTY — Three people have died and one was injured after a car attempted to avoid a snowplow truck that collided with another car in Washington County Monday morning.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, shortly before 9 a.m. a 2002 Buick Park Avenue was traveling north near the 1700 block of Iowa Highway 1 and attempted to pass a snowplow that was traveling south.

After the Buick crossed the center line into the northbound lane, a 2013 Nissan Rouge became stuck.

The driver of the Buick, the driver of the Nissan and the passenger of the Nissan all died on impact, the report said.

A fourth person was taken by Washington County EMS to the University of Iowa Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The report did not specify which vehicle the injured person was traveling in.

The names of all victims have not been released at this time pending notification of families.

The bodies of the fatal victims were recovered from Jones Funeral Home in Washington.

Only one of the three people who died was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The report did not state whether the surviving victim was wearing a seatbelt.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in reporting the accident.
