Sunday, Fauler Sunday. It’s been a while that I have built a walk into the past. Before today’s worm, I thought we would take a look at some important historical events that had taken place on January 26th over the entire centuries.

1531 – Earthquake in Lisbon: A devastating earthquake hit Lisbon, Portugal, which causes widespread destruction and numerous victims.

1788 – The first fleet arrives in Australia: Captain Arthur Phillip raised the Union Jack in Sydney Cove and officially founded the British colony of New South Wales, which has now been celebrated as a Australia day.

1837 – Michigan becomes a US state: Michigan was admitted to the union as 26th state.

1905 – Discovery of the Cullinan diamond: The largest diamond in gem quality that has ever been found was discovered in Cullinan, South Africa.

1926 – First demonstration of television: John Logie Baird demonstrated the first working television system in London that revolutionized communication and entertainment.

1934 – Germany signs a non -aggression pact with Poland: Adolf Hitler’s government signed a ten -year -old pact that later violated Poland’s invasion in 1939.

1950 – India becomes a republic: The constitution of India came into force and made India a sovereign democratic republic. This is celebrated as the day of the Republic in India.

1962 – NASA starts Ranger 3: The moon probe was launched, but the moon missed and instead drove into the sun’s orbit.

2001 – Gujarat earthquake in India: A massive earthquake of 7.7 size hit Gujarat, killed over 20,000 people and caused widespread destruction.

2020 – Kobe Bryant disappears: Basketball legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven more died tragically in a helicopter accident in Calabasas, California.

Today’s worm etymology

The word “sunny” comes from the old English word “Sunne”What “sun” means. It developed by adding the suffix “-y”What adjectives forms that show qualities or characteristics. This is how “Sunny” “full of sun” or “bright as the sun”, and it has been used in English for at least the 14th century.
