Here we are finally. It’s the first of December and the start of the home stretch of 2024. It’s hard to believe that the year is almost over and the quarter century mark is just a month away. 25 years in the 21st century. Will we make it to 2100? Of course, most of us won’t do that unless we somehow unlock the key to eternal life in the next few decades. But our children and grandchildren could do it. Word analysis

Every day I look at Wordle Bot to analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

Can you solve today’s sentence?

I very rarely guess beginning words with three vowels, preferring to use two in each of my two opening attempts, but today RAISE came to mind and I was lucky that it did. I was off to a good start with the green boxes for A and E and there were only 32 words left. I decided to use all new letters for my second guess and used a “U” word because I could think of a handful of words that contained that vowel.

I came up with GULCH to eliminate as many letters as possible, and at that point only had two options: MAUVE or TAUPE. I actually didn’t even think about TAUPE and found out from my Wordle bot analysis that it was an option. What’s a little strange is that the last two words happen to be colors that also happen to be frequently paired together. At least I chose the right one!

Today’s Wordle etymology

The word mauve comes from the French name for the mallow plant (mallow in Latin), whose flowers have a similar pale purple color. Discovered by William Henry Perkin in 1856, the dye mauveine was named after this plant because of its similarity to the flower’s hue. The term entered English usage shortly afterwards and referred to both the color and the synthetic dye.
