Tom Hanks leads an ‘ultimate safari’ in new documents The Americas (exclusive)

If you always wanted to do a whirlwind adventure with Tom Hanks, your chance is now.

The Oscar winner takes the viewer on “an hour of discovery” while he tells the new NBC 10-part natural documentary series. AmericaPremiere on Sunday, February 23.

“He is the voice of America,” says the executing producer Mike Gunton the People of Hanks, who was his first choice to deliver voice – and heart – behind the incredible film material that he and his team captured.

The actor Ad Libs and breaks the fourth wall while he leads the audience on a bookstile journey through North and South America. Each episode focuses on the natural beauty of another site, including Atlantic coast, Mexico, wild vests, Amazon, Frozen North, Golf Coast, Andes, Caribbean, west coast and Patagonia.

It took over five years, 180 expeditions, a team of scientists and months of “planning and justification and logistical backup” to record 10 different areas in North and South America.

“They still rely a little on the gods who smile on them,” he says. “But I would say of these 180 expeditions that almost all of them were successful because we had done the homework, but also because science, the scientists, the people in the field with whom we work with.
