Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks hints at the return of the Project 91 car to NASCAR

Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks said he expects to see the team’s Project 91 car back on track “sooner rather than later” after the team stops running the car in 2023.

Marks made the comments this week at the fifth annual Race Industry Week, sponsored by Racer.com. epartrade.com and speed sports.

The Project 91 program is designed to provide renowned international racers the opportunity to compete in a NASCAR race while expanding the reach of Trackhouse Racing.

The NASCAR president also discussed the cost and value of the Chicago Street Race as well as modernizing NASCAR-owned tracks for fans.

Trackhouse Racing debuted Project 91 in 2022 with former world champion Kimi Räikkönen at Watkins Glen.

Raikkonen returned to run at COTA in 2023. Shane van Gisbergen won the first Chicago Street Race in 2023 and also made his Cup debut with Project 91. He ran another race this season.

Trackhouse will add van Gisbergen to its Cup squad and expand him to a full-time three-car campaign in 2025. He will be teammates with Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez.

Marks said this week that there was too much going on at Trackhouse Racing last year to prepare for the three-car effort in 2025 to field the Project 91 car.

“Project 91 is certainly not dead,” Marks said. “I would expect to see that on the track sooner rather than later. … We have great partners for this car. As for the future, there are many possibilities. I mean tons of options. I get calls all the time from some of the best riders in the world asking me to come over and do it. This is really exciting for us.”
