I remember being in the cinema a few months ago and seeing the trailer Transformers One, and even though I’ve never seen a single Transformers movie in my life, I knew I wanted to see it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you haven’t heard about this new cartoon Transformers movie, or if you’ve heard about it in passing but haven’t seen any marketing for it. It is believed that a lack of marketing is a big reason why this film did not do particularly well in theaters. I know when I watched it the theater was completely empty. It’s out of theaters now and has finally arrived on Paramount+.

And I’m here to tell you that it’s absolutely worth seeing! Like I said, I’ve never seen any Transformers There are a lot of films out there, but you don’t have to have seen them to enjoy this one. It’s actually a prequel starring the young Optimus Prime before he became the leader of the Autobots, and is set on their homeworld of Cybertron. I love the idea of a prequel that doesn’t involve humans, because as far as I know have seen by the live action Michael Bay Transformers When it comes to movies, it really feels like people are the least interesting part of any movie.

There’s so much I love about it Transformers One. Firstly, it was the fact that it was animated that got me hooked in the first place, and I’m happy to report that the animation is absolutely outstanding. The lighting, the colors, the movement, the expressions, the backgrounds, the particle effects – everything visually involved is really appealing. In that regard, I’m super impressed and it’s definitely much preferable to the CGI of the live-action films.

With animated films there is also the area of voice acting. When films like this get a star-studded cast, I’m usually less than thrilled. There are so many recent animated films starring A-listers whose voice actors are bad or have no voice actors at all (looking at you, John Oliver’s Zazu). They take them in not because they’re good at voice acting or really fit the character, but because their name looks impressive on the cast list. Even though this movie stars big names like Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johannsson, and even Steve Buscemi, I actually think the voice actors in this movie are pretty good. First and foremost was Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron very good choice.

One of the most controversial views I’ve ever seen Transformers One is whether the humor works or not. Some people find it rather unfunny, others, myself included, find it very funny. Humor is certainly subjective and I really don’t like the humor in a lot of “kids” films. Movies that other people find pretty funny, for example Encanto or The Super Mario Bros. moviehave some of the unfunniest jokes I’ve ever heard. So I can’t say how much you’ll like the jokes, but I think they work really well and I actually laughed out loud several times throughout the film. There’s a good mix of physical and verbal comedy, and I appreciate any “kids” movie that doesn’t contain fart/burp humor. (After all, they’re robots, so toilet humor wouldn’t make much sense anyway.)

As it progresses, I love it when a film that seems really innocent and full of friendship gets kind of dark. I won’t go into details because I want this to be a spoiler-free review, but I really like when you think there’s no way something’s going to happen, and then it does happenedand you are left with your mouth open, clutching your pearls. Unpredictability is really good in a film like this.

So, yes, this film is visually great, has good performances, is funny and overall really unique and interesting. I can’t believe I’m one now Transformers Fan! I highly recommend watching this film if you have Paramount+. It’s a lot of fun and I think you’ll like it.

Have you seen it in the cinema? Do you like the other one? Transformers Movies? Let me know in the comments and have a nice day!
