Trump calls on Republican senators to keep Canadian tariffs in place

President Donald Trump asked the Senate on Tuesday to keep the United States’s tariffs in Canada – hours before the Democrats in the upper chamber could possibly force a vote to prevent the president from raising tariffs to the allied country.

The resolution submitted by legislators on Tuesday aims to end the international emergency that Trump has declared against Canada, thereby preventing his government’s authorization to take tariffs. There is only one day until Trump’s tariffs on Canada come into force as part of the “liberation day” – the plans of the president to enlarge comprehensive tariffs, of which he said they will have an impact on “all countries”.
