Trump cuts national parks together: “You won’t have full experience”

With 2.2 million tomorrow, Yellowstone is about as large as Rhode Island and Delaware. Seasonal parking workers help to manage and operate their five park entrances, almost 1,000 miles backcountry trails, seven park campsites with 450 campsites, 52 picnic areas and 11 visitor centers, museums and contact stations.

Yellowstone has about 300 permanent employees, but usually hires 200 or more seasonal workers. Yellowstone managers usually want to fill these seasonal places until mid-March so that they are ready if the park opens up automatic traffic from mid-April. The federal government’s hiring process includes long background reviews, and some employees need a special training for everything, from Grizzly Bear Safety to first aid to Backcountry Horse Packing.

Even a seasonal job like emptying dash cans is of crucial importance in Yellowstone, in which garbage has to be collected every day from numerous containers throughout the park so that they do not become a source of food for grizzlies and other wildlife.

Arianna Knight, 29, from Bozeman, Mont., The Wilderness Trails Supervisor for the Yellowstone District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest, was released on February 14th together with more than 30 other Custer Gallatin employees. Ms. Knight said mechanized tools such as chainsaws.

Now these paths are not clarified, said Ms. Knight and added: “People will suffer.”

Others are concerned about security in the parks. According to a study by the National Park Service 2023, the rate of heat -related diseases and deaths in the parks can double in the coming years when the temperatures rise due to climate change. In the summer of 2023, NPS reported on its highest number of heat -related diseases, under which deaths in the Big Bend National Park in Texas and Death Valley National Park, where the temperatures reached 129 degrees. Last summer, the three -digit heat in the Grand Canyon and Canyonlands National Park in Utah led to deaths.
