TSA urges travelers to prepare for long lines during the Thanksgiving rush

As the Thanksgiving travel rush continues, airports and roads remain crowded with travelers trying to reach their destinations.

Whether you’re heading to the airport or on the road, officials like the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) emphasize the importance of allowing extra time.

Wednesday morning wait times at Reagan National Airport (DCA) are currently estimated to be between 6 and 16 minutes, depending on the terminal. However, one traveler reported that he had to wait around 20 to 30 minutes around 5am

In Dulles (IAD), the TSA reports waiting times of a maximum of 17 minutes and BWI-Marshall of just six minutes.

Here are some tips to help travelers save time:

  • At Dulles: Consider using the “Kiss and Fly” drop-off option. It can help you avoid crowded pickup and drop-off areas.
  • At Reagan National: Travelers with carry-on luggage flying Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue or United can use the Express Drop Off between the parking garages and the subway station.
  • Use public transportation: Subway connections to Dulles and Reagan National airports.
  • Plan ahead: Whether you’re traveling by plane or road, allow extra time.
