Two Canadian Sikh men have been arrested after a stolen car led to a police chase

MISSISSAUGA, India (Diya TV) – Two men are arrested and facing multiple charges after a stolen vehicle was recovered in Mississauga Wednesday morning. Officers from the 12 Division Community Incident Response Team were on proactive patrol in the area of Goreway Drive and Brandon Gate Drive around 8 a.m. when they located an occupied stolen Lexus RX 350.

Police said the suspects attempted to flee, which led to a short foot chase. The suspects were arrested and officers laid several charges, including drug offenses, theft offenses and weapons offenses.

Bhawanjeet Singh, 23, and Gurdeep Singh, 28, who have no fixed address, now face a number of criminal charges. Bhawanjeet Singh was charged with dangerous operation, mischief over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Meanwhile, Gurdeep Singh faces similar charges, with additional charges of possession of a controlled substance and violating a release order.

Police are taking the suspects into custody, who appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton for a bail hearing. They did not have a house anywhere, police added.

The incident occurred when officers on routine patrol spotted the stolen Lexus. According to authorities, police responded quickly to prevent the vehicle from escaping, but before they could do so, several patrol cars were damaged. The suspects attempted to run away on foot, but officers pursued them and arrested them shortly afterwards.

The charges against the two men include possession of stolen property, an increasingly common problem in Ontario, where car thefts have increased in recent years. Peel Regional Police have increased their efforts to combat these crimes, particularly in high-traffic areas such as Mississauga and Brampton. The recovery of the stolen Lexus and subsequent arrests are part of ongoing efforts to curb vehicle thefts in the region.

Both suspects are expected to appear in court again following their initial bail hearings.

Peel Regional Police have urged residents to be vigilant, report suspicious activity and take precautions to protect their vehicles as high-end vehicles become targeted for thefts in suburban neighborhoods.
