Two Canton children who disappeared in October have been found safe in Iceland

CANTON — Two Canton children who went missing in October have been found safe in Iceland, the U.S. Marshals Service said Thursday.

A family member reported the 8-year-old and 9-year-old missing to Canton police on Oct. 25, and authorities began investigating their disappearance. According to a report, the 34-year-old mother had stopped taking her mental health medication and left her apartment, and the children stopped attending school, authorities said.

“The cooperation in this case cannot be understated,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a prepared statement. “The ability to respond and recover these children overseas is an extremely difficult task.” Our investigators have done an outstanding job. We are fortunate to have such strong and dedicated law enforcement partners, and they deserve credit for helping to bring these children home.”
