SALISBURY — A juvenile and an 18-year-old woman have been charged in connection with the Nov. 7 carjacking of a Lyft driver, according to Salisbury police.

That day, the Lyft driver was picking up a fare in the 300 block of Annandale Avenue. The driver told police there were two female passengers, one of whom was wearing a mask.

As they got into the car, she asked for their names to confirm it was her fare, and the one wearing the mask pulled out a gun and held it to the victim’s head. They forced the driver out of the car and drove away in her vehicle.

Police entered the vehicle information into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database and received word that night that Lexington police had the vehicle and the two women stopped. Lexington police found the victim’s mask and gun, as well as his cellphone, which were still in the glove compartment of the car. Police were able to call the victim to verify the vehicle was her vehicle.

The juvenile was referred to Child Protective Services and 18-year-old Kayla Campbell was charged by Lexington police and subsequently released on bail. Meanwhile, Salisbury police applied for a warrant and arrested her on November 15 at her home in Salisbury.

Campbell was charged by Salisbury with robbery with a firearm and obtaining property by false pretenses. Because she already had bail in Davidson County, she was not granted bail in Rowan County.
