Two people were hit by a car during an altercation at an intersection in west Las Vegas

Police say a car collided with two people who were arguing at a Las Vegas intersection Monday night, leaving them with life-threatening injuries.

The collision was reported at the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Fort Apache Road just after 10 p.m., Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Investigators suspected two men were arguing in one of the lanes “over a possible road rage incident,” LVMPD said.

A Toyota Camry traveling north on Fort Apache struck the two men and they were taken to UMC in critical condition.

The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.

Nevada lawmakers could address the issue of road rage in the 2025 legislative session. A bill submitted in November wants to make road traffic violence a criminal offense.

According to Metro Police, clashes on the streets have increased. According to officials, a rideshare driver was shot to death on the Las Vegas Strip outside the Palazzo on Nov. 25 after confronting a woman. On Nov. 26, gunfire erupted after another road rage incident in a neighborhood near Alta Drive and Upland Blvd.

According to police, shots were fired but no injuries were reported.

“Road speeding can happen to all kinds of people,” said Timothy Jeider, president of the Nevada Psychiatric Association.

Jeider said stress can build up, leading to an emotional reaction, such as anger, when you’re behind the wheel. He also suspects that post-pandemic there will be a shift in the way people react online compared to the real world.

“I can have a very aggressive disagreement and argument with someone through a screen, there will be no real, tangible, physical consequences,” Jeider said. “I don’t think society has fully caught up to the fact that our words and actions have consequences and that there is a big difference online and in person.”

Police said the crash at Fort Apache and Tropicana remains under investigation.
