U-Haul just dropped a high-quality car trailer

Project car lovers rejoice! It’s about to get easier for you to haul your tracked vehicles and non-moving junkers, because U-Haul is releasing a brand new trailer aimed squarely at car nerds. While U-Haul rental trailers have always been the top choice for affordable car moves, this new trailer – aptly named the “Toy Hauler” – is specifically designed to make towing modern cars even easier.

What sets the Toy Hauler apart from all other U-Haul trailers? First of all, its size. The entire trailer is just over 23 feet long, with a usable deck measuring 16 feet long and 8.5 feet wide. So that the entire space can be used, the two wheel arch fenders are stepped and thus enable safe driving on and over. So if you’re towing something that takes up the entire width of the trailer, you can still drive on it without damaging anything.

U-Haul also increased the Toy Hauler’s load capacity to 6,800 pounds, a respectable jump from the old car transport trailer’s maximum load rating of 5,290 pounds. Luckily, most people don’t tow electric SUVs and pickup trucks because the 6,800-pound load capacity would still be too low for cars like the Rivian R1T or Chevy Silverado EV.

U-Haul’s latest creation also offers a range of tie-down points and rails that can be used to secure vehicles, wheels or other track days Facilities. Interestingly, U-Haul even thought of strange three-wheeled vehicles like the Morgan 3 Wheeler and the Polaris Slingshot and added three extendable ramps that are eight feet long.

The Toy Hauler is not necessary for everyone. So if you’re towing a small car or motorcycle, you can probably get by with one of U-Haul’s smaller, cheaper options. Although there’s no official price yet and production won’t begin until 2025, the Toy Hauler will likely be more expensive than the $54.95 per day you’d pay for a standard car trailer. But even if you don’t need it, the Toy Hauler seems a lot easier to use than the regular car hauler we’ve all been renting for years. For anyone with a little extra cash to spare, this new trailer will probably make life a lot nicer.
