UCLA alum has shown no signs of slowing down

The UCLA Bruins are well represented throughout professional sports, particularly the NBA.

A former UCLA basketball star who has excelled at the next level, current Boston Celtic point guard Jrue Holiday has lived up to expectations. Holiday is in his 16th year in the NBA at age 34 and has shown no signs of wear and tear in his game.

Holiday was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers back in 2009. Holiday spent his first four seasons there, playing 298 games. During that four-year period, he averaged 13.3 points per game. His tenure with the 76ers following his years at UCLA gave Holiday a new brand to his name.

After four seasons, he left the 76ers and moved to the New Orleans Pelicans for the next seven seasons of his career. In New Orleans, Holiday showed he’s a guy who can cause problems on offense.

Averaging 17.2 points per game during his seven-year career with the Pelicans, Holiday made a name for himself after leaving Philadelphia. His best season for New Orleans was 2018-19, where he averaged 21.2 points per game and started all 67 games he played. New Orleans fans, the team’s true backbone, were saddened after Holiday left his homeland for seven seasons.

Since his time as a Pelican, Holiday played for the Milwakee Bucks for three seasons and is now the starting player. Guard for the Celtics. Now in his second season with Boston, Holiday is showing no age in his game. Although the average points per game has dropped, the importance of having him on the court has not.

The former Bruin is now in a leadership role for the game’s younger stars, but Holiday has shown he still has what it takes. For the 2024-25 season, Holiday is averaging 12.3 points per game, 3.7 assists and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 88.9% from the free throw line and 45.3% from the field overall.

Holiday was a crucial part of the Celtics’ success last season and has only continued into the current season. Holiday signed a contract extension with Boston last April; Over the next four seasons, Celtic fans will get used to Holiday.
