“Unapproved” pork products are sent to New Jersey

⚫ Products included in a health alert have been sent to New Jersey and other states

⚫ The bags came from a country that is not allowed to export meat to the USA

⚫ You are advised to throw away or return the meat

Illegally imported meat products may have entered your home.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a health alert related to products imported from Ecuador, a country not authorized to export meat and poultry products to the United States.

Only one product is currently affected by the alert, but officials are continuing to investigate and may add products to the list.

The affected product

The current warning applies to frozen ready-to-eat pork mortadella products.

In particular, officials want consumers to look out for vacuum-sealed one-pound packs of “Mortadela Especial Bolognia.” According to the authorities, the products do not bear the USDA inspection mark or a company number.

According to the USDA, the packages were shipped to retail and distribution locations in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland and Rhode Island.

Get rid of it

Authorities discovered the problem during surveillance operations at a warehouse.

There are concerns that the illegally imported product may be in consumers’ freezers. Anyone who purchased the mortadella is strongly advised not to eat it.

“These products should be thrown away or returned to the point of purchase,” the health alert says.

So far there have been no confirmed reports of illness from eating pork.
