UNH student missing for a week after car found

Alex Garcia, 24, is 5 feet 7 inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes, police said.

Durham police are asking for the public’s help in locating a University of New Hampshire student who has been missing since Thursday.

Alexis Garcia, 24, was last seen by friends on Nov. 21, police said. Police said they conducted a wellness check on Garcia Tuesday morning and found his empty car parked at the Scammell Bridge rest area on Route 4 in Durham.

Police discovered the car, a black 2021 Mercedes-Benz, was parked unoccupied at the rest stop from 8:30 p.m. Saturday until Tuesday morning when they found the car.

According to police, Garcia is 5 feet 7 inches tall and has brown hair and brown eyes. He is originally from Illinois and has ties to the US Navy and US Air Force ROTC, according to police.

Durham police said they do not believe Garcia’s disappearance was the result of a crime but are investigating the incident.
