UPDATE: 6 to 8 inches of snow forecast for Clarksville, governor declares state of emergency

Update, 3:35 p.m.: The NWS is now forecasting 6 to 8 inches of snow for Clarksville, with the most likely snow total of 6.2 inches, according to the forecast for 2:30 p.m.

At the direction of Governor Bill Lee, TEMA Director Patrick C. Sheehan declared a state of emergency to provide regulatory relief due to winter weather in Tennessee. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency is urging all Tennesseans to prepare for a severe winter storm with impacts expected Thursday evening into Saturday afternoon.

Update, 1:50 p.m.: The timing of the snow’s arrival has shifted by an hour and is now expected in Clarksville at 6 a.m., according to the NWS. It could snow as early as 4 a.m. or as late as 8 a.m. The snowfall was expected to end in Clarksville at 9 p.m. It could end as early as 7 p.m. or as late as 11 p.m

Update, 10:50 a.m.: The “highest melting days” will be Sunday and Monday, according to the NWS. Sunday’s high is expected to be around 40 and Monday’s high is expected to be in the upper 30s.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The National Weather Service snow warning has been upgraded to a winter storm warning from 3 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday.

“Plan for slippery roads and difficult travel conditions,” the warning says. “The dangerous conditions could impact Friday morning and evening commutes. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, water and warm clothing in your vehicle in case of an emergency.”

Clarksville is expected to see 4 to 6 inches of snow. To narrow that down, the chance of more than 3 inches of snow falling in Clarksville is 73%, and the chance of us getting more than 5 inches is about 30%, according to the NWS.

On Friday, snow will most likely start around 7 a.m. in Clarksville, but it could start as early as 4 a.m. or as late as 10 a.m., the NWS said. Roads will begin to become snowy and slippery Friday morning. We will have major travel problems with slippery and snowy roads until Friday afternoon. Travel impacts will remain in place until Saturday.

Warming shelter

Anyone needing a place to warm up can contact the Clarksville Area Urban Ministries warming facility Shelter at the Madison Street UMC Gymnasium, 300 Commerce St.

Any homeless person can board any city of Clarksville bus and tell the driver that they need to go to the homeless shelter. They will take you there for free.
