Update on the Eagles and Ravens ahead of Sunday’s game

Here’s some roster updates for the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens ahead of their Week 13 game at M&T Bank Stadium.

The Eagles downgraded WR Johnny Wilson from questionable to OUT.

The rookie wide receiver unexpectedly missed practice on Friday due to a hamstring injury.

Wilson has only been targeted twice in the last three weeks, so it’s not like he’s a key part of the passing attack. But he was used as a red zone threat and was a good run blocker. Wilson played just 70% of the Eagles’ offensive snaps in Week 12, a career-best.

The Eagles placed FB/LB Ben VanSumeren on injured reserve.

BVS suffered a season-ending knee injury during training on Friday. The Eagles will be without their best fullback and backup linebacker/special teams personnel.

The Eagles have signed WR Parris Campbell from their practice squad to the active roster.

The Eagles have already exhausted Campbell’s limit of three temporary increases to the practice squad and therefore had to add him to the roster in order to have him available for a game.

The team decided Campbell was needed since Wilson was ruled out and DeVonta Smith was considered questionable to play. Maybe the signing of Campbell indicates that DeVonta isn’t playing?

If DeVonta can’t keep up, the Eagles will roll with the following wide receivers: AJ Brown, Jahan Dotson, Britain Covey, Ainias Smith and Campbell.

Campbell has six receptions on seven targets for just 30 yards and one touchdown this season. To date, he has logged 112 offensive snaps and 1 special teams snap.

The Eagles have temporarily signed TE CJ Uzomah and OLB Ochaun Mathis from the practice squad.

For the third straight year, the Eagles make Uzomah their third tight end behind Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra. Uzomah only played three offensive snaps in Week 11, but he played 16 in Week 12. Since the Eagles are short on wide receivers, they could opt for more 12- and 13-personnel looks in this game. Uzomah could also potentially help fill the Wilson role to some extent. This is Uzomah’s third and final temporary promotion in the regular season; The Eagles have to add him to the squad if they want to have him available for the next matchday.

It’s a surprise to see Mathis elevated above Tarron Jackson. The former joined the team just a little less than a week ago. But Mathis can give the Eagles more edge rusher depth after Brandon Graham’s injury. He also has experience working on special teams.

Specifically, the Ravens did not activate nose tackle Michael Pierce and cornerback TJ Tampa in time to play on Sunday.

The Ravens opened a 21-day practice window earlier this week for each of those players to return from injured reserve.

It was thought Pierce, who attended Friday’s practice fully, might be able to compete. But that won’t be the case, which is probably a good development for the Eagles’ rushing attack. Pierce is one of the best run-stuffing interior defenders in the NFL.

Tampa, a rookie corner, wasn’t considered likely to play anyway.
