US editions for the Bahamas issue new, serious travel advice

Quite every cruise ship that leaves Florida stops on the Bahamas.

Most Americans think of Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, as the Bahamas. In reality it is a city that is part of a much larger nation.

“The Bahamas are an archipelago with almost 700 coral islands. Around 30 of the islands are inhabited. The Bahamas are sitting in West Atlantic, 100 kilometers southeast of Florida in the USA and 80 kilometers northeast of Cuba.

Each large cruise line stops at several destinations on the Bahamas. Nassau can start seven ships at the same time, so it is a very popular destination for cruise ships, but it is certainly not the only station in the region.

Freeport is also a popular cruise, and Carnival builds its new private destination for celebrations, about 20 miles east of the city on the island of Grand Bahama. The perfect day of the Royal Caribbean at CocoCay and Norwegian’s Great Steigrup Cay Private Islands are just as much on the Bahamas, as are several other private islands of the cruise.

However, the whole country has a serious warning from the US State Department.

The US State Department revises the Bahamas warning

The Bahamas have been subject to level 2: Exercise for months under a warning from the US State Department. According to the Foreign Ministry’s website, this warning has been updated to reflect “crime, swimming -related risks and information about travel with firearms and ammunition”.

It is a broad warning ship passengers should be aware.

“Violent crimes – such as armed robberies, break -ins and sexual assault – can occur anywhere on the Bahamas. Most of the crimes occur in Nassau and Freeport on New Providence and Grand Bahama Island.

The Foreign Ministry also contains specific warnings for people who rent certain water vehicles (a popular activity for cruisers).

Jetkier and booting:

  • Booting is not well regulated. Injuries and deaths have occurred.

  • Jet skiing companies were also reported on sexual assault.

  • Due to the risks, US government agents are prohibited from using jetkiers and personal watercraft, which are rented by independent operators on New Providence and Paradise Iceland.

  • Water vehicles may not be safe, and some operators are not licensed or insured.

  • Water vehicle operators sometimes ignore weather forecasts. Follow always local weather and sea warnings.

The US warning also includes beaches

Many cruisers not only spend boats and jetkiers, but also spend the day on the beach on the Bahamas. You should be careful.

Beach security:

  • Never swim alone and pay attention to jetkier or other water vehicles that work near the country.

  • Sexual attacks have taken place on the beaches of the city center of Nassau. Pay attention to your surroundings and stay vigilant in public toilets.

  • Pay attention to your own fitness and swimming skills.

  • If you are new to snorkeling, understand the risks. Swimmers and snorkelers have died after overestimating their physical fitness or health.

  • Stay vigilant on sharks. Hair attacks have led to serious injuries and death.

  • Pay attention to weather and water conditions and follow the local warnings.

Some of these warnings would not only apply to the Bahamas, but also for swimming everywhere.

Cruise passengers should be aware of their surroundings, but are not afraid of visiting Bahamas. Excursions sponsored with cruise lines are your safest bet, but it is possible to explore these goals yourself.

If you do this, pay attention to your surroundings and adhere to areas that are well attended by other cruise passengers. Traveling in a group is the best choice and try to stay on the main streets.

Note your valuables on the beach and consider getting a waterproof telephone holder in which you can also keep your identification, cash and credit cards on your body.
