Uzo Aduba shares details about her new dramatic role, which works with Shonda Rhimes and the effects of parenting

The actor Uzo Aduba, who plays the main role in the new Netflix murder mytery “The Residence”, works on the role and works with Shonda Rhimes and how her young daughter was critical to help her find her inner peace in the middle of a busy life.

Aduba plays Cordelia Cupp, the best detective in the world, in “The Residence”. She is called to examine every person in the White House after a mysterious death during a state dinner and is reluctantly combined with an FBI agent.

“I loved her quirky behavior,” said Aduba. “She has come in a way that we have never seen before that a detective has come to a case. She is also a bird woman, so she brings her into her detective work. She is excellent in her job and she loves it.”

The three-time Emmy winner calls her character “fearless” and “fatal”.

“She (Cupp) holds a straight face all the time. She does not want to allow anything on her face to move to her person who is of interest, to move in a direction in which she does not want her,” explains Aduba.

Shonda Rhimes is an executive producer of the series. Aduba said she hadn’t known Rhimes beforehand, the creator behind hit shows such as “Skandal” and “Grey’s Anatomy”, and called it an honor to work with her in the series.

“I was a huge, huge Shonda Rimes fan and didn’t miss a Thursday with ‘scandal’. I saw it twice … And just like Cordelia Cupp is the best detective in the world, Shonda Rhimes is one of our best in the television world,” said Aduba.

Aduba was previously seen as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” in the Hit Netflix series “Orange is the New Black”.

“I think if I can make connections to the role that I am now playing, and the role of ‘Crazy Eyes’, both people themselves are unapikely,” said Aduba. “‘Crazy Eyes’ for me is someone who is so honest, so honest, so even for good or bad, and she knew no other way than the true version.”

Apart from her world of work, Aduba spoke to “CBS morning” about the effects that her 1-year-old daughter achieved in her life.

“For me there were so many things outside of me – whether it is my job to just try to connect or land me, and not that these things were not fulfilled, I love my job. I love what I do. I love all of these things, but I just didn’t know that there was another level that they can love.”
