Vandals dominate NW college invitational

BOISE, Idaho – The University of Idaho swimming and diving team dominated the field, earning 2,737 points, compared to 1,477 from second-place Seattle U and 1,011 from Whitman College at the NW Collegiate Invite held at the Idaho Central Aquatic Center in downtown Boise. The Vandals posted 11 first-place finishes, 59 season bests, 39 persona bests, 11 meet records and a school record.

The Vandals started with a bang, taking three of the top four spots in the 200-yard freestyle relay and then, led by the freshman, secured the top four spots in the 500-yard freestyle relay Holly Lenarz who finished with a time of 4:58.35. Second semester Ginger pine set the pool record in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:57.81.

Kiefer also set the pool record and personal best in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:00.28, leading a contingent of Vandals that took four of the event’s top five spots.

Madelyn Butler finished third in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 23.64.

The Vandals took four of the top five places in the 400-yard medley relay, with Idaho’s senior team setting the meet and pool record with a time of 3:46.64.

Idaho took the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay, with the Idaho A team setting a meet-and-pool record time of 1:43.28.

Silvana Cabrera took the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.92, setting the pace for two more Vandals. Grace rubles and Madelyn Butler, who placed second and third.

Kiefer added an individual win in the 400-yard individual medley. Idaho swimmers took four of the top five places in the 400-yard IM.

Isabelle Bark set a new pool record in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:52.44 in the heats before taking the lead Bethany Rahn And Sienna Lefeber to a win for Idaho on the podium.

In the 100-yard breaststroke Rylie Moxham And Kaitlyn Hafer took second and third place, leading Vandals to four of the top five finishes.

Ella Haskins set the pool record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.59. Katy Foley finished second with a time of 56.06.

The Vandals won the 800-yard freestyle with a meet and pool record of 7:33.05.

Kiefer added a title in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.69, again setting the meet and pool record. Katy Foley took third place in the same event.

Haskins and Butler placed first and second in the 100-yard freestyle. Haskins finished the race with a time of 50.74.

Natalie Charles took second place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.36, leading a group of three Vandals who placed second through fifth.

Cabrera took first place in the 200-yard butterfly Taylor Wassel finished second and Gracie Rubble was third.

The Vandal 400-yard freestyle relay A team took the title and meet-and-pool record and the Idaho B team took third place.

The Vandals finished the meet with dominance in the 1,650-yard freestyle, taking the top five places, led by Lenarz, who finished the race with a time of 17:14.94. Marie Mason finished second with a time of 17:29.68 and Ava Langston took third place with a time of 17:47.21.

LUMBERJACK DIVING INVITATION

Lauren Wierschke placed 14th in the 1M competition and 16th in the platform competition Saige Anderson took 17th place and Abigail Pink took 25th place in the platform.

Wierschke scored 483.65 in the 1M. She added a score of 295.75 on the platform.

Anderson posted a score of 279.60 on the plateau, while Pink failed to advance to the finals, finishing with a score of 112.35.
