Vestal Big Lots to Close: What You Should Know

Despite a new agreement keeping some Big Lots stores open across the country, Big Lots stores in Broome County are among hundreds that will soon close or have already closed because the company has filed for bankruptcy.

Months after filing for bankruptcy and announcing the closure of all stores, Big Lots recently reached an agreement that will allow hundreds of stores across the United States to remain open.

The retailer announced a transaction Friday with Boston-based asset management firm Gordon Brothers Retail Partners that resulted in the transfer of up to 400 Big Lots stores to Variety Wholesalers, Inc.

According to a press release from the companies, Variety Wholesalers plans to operate the stores acquired in the transaction under the Big Lots brand and may employ current Big Lots employees in the stores and one or two of the Big Lots distribution centers to be acquired.
