Veteran forward Chris Kreider is a healthy scratch for the Rangers

According to multiple reports, New York Rangers veteran forward Chris Kreider was a healthy reserve for Monday afternoon’s game against the Devils in New Jersey.

The 33-year-old American has spent his entire 13-year career with the Rangers, scoring 11 goals and one assist in 30 games this season.

A year removed from winning the NHL’s Presidents’ Trophy with 55 wins and 114 points, the Rangers have taken a big step back this season with a record of 16-16-1. They have lost seven of their last 10 games and are in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division.

Trade rumors have been swirling around the Rangers all season long, as general manager Chris Drury traded captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks earlier this month.

TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston reported in November that Drury “specifically mentioned Trouba and Kreider as experienced Rangers players he would be happy to move on under the right circumstances.”

The NHL is currently under a holiday trading ban as teams cannot sell players until December 27th.

Kreider is in the fifth season of a seven-year, $45.50 million contract with an average annual value of $6.5 million.

Kreider was selected 19th overall by the Rangers in 2009 and has 315 goals and 249 assists in 845 games in New York. He has 48 goals and 28 assists in 123 career playoff games.
