Not a fan of the Gordon Murray T.50? The car manufacturer doesn’t care; They already have one screwed to the back.

Gordon Murray wanted to build a driver’s car: lighter, more fuel efficient and better balanced than his famous McLaren F1.

The T.50 is surprisingly small, barely bigger than a Porsche Cayman.

Murray says many of the T.50’s details are “fixes” for things he was never entirely happy with in the McLaren F1. For example, the center back at the rear of the car is narrower on the T.50 than on the F1.

For a supercar, the T.50 sits on smaller wheels and tires, 235/35ZR-19 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S at the front and 295/30ZR-20 at the rear.

When Murray needed an engine, he went to Cosworth with some reservations. It had to be naturally aspirated and lightweight, with a low center of gravity. It had to produce at least 650 horsepower, have no belts, pulleys or external accessories and, most demanding of all, it had to be capable of a speed of over 12,000 rpm. Cosworth delivered with a 3.9-liter V-12.

The T.50’s badge is based on Gordon Murray’s family crest.

Side-mounted cameras replace side mirrors.

The fan on the back isn’t just used to cool down the excited spectators. It draws air from underneath the car and acts as a virtual longtail at sustained high speeds for better stability and fuel efficiency.
