“Vikings make history with overtime win in Chicago”

In the National Football League, being asked to play away in three consecutive weeks is a rarity. Winning all three road games is even rarer, but the Minnesota Vikings did it thanks to their 30-27 overtime win over Chicago on Sunday at Soldier Field. In doing so, they wrote franchise history.

According to the Vikings’ public relations department, the last three games marked the 11th time the team played away games against the Twin Cities in three consecutive weeks. This was the first time in franchise history that the Vikings were victorious in all three games in this scenario.

Sure, the Vikings didn’t blow anyone away in those three games, but they did enough to push their record to 9-2 on the year and keep the pressure on Detroit in the NFC North race. They’ve also secured a very good spot in the NFC playoff race and are showing that they can win just about anywhere. So far this season they are 4-1 at the cozy US Bank Stadium and 5-1 away.

Now the Vikings are being rewarded in a way. . .They can play three straight games in Minneapolis before having to go back on the road to play Seattle in Week 16. With the NFC North title (and a potential No. 1 seed in the conference) still up for grabs, it will be nice for the Vikings not to have to worry about travel and such as they begin their stretch run.

Congratulations to Kevin O’Connell and this Vikings team, who entered the record books on Sunday by winning three straight road games for the first time in franchise history.
