Villanova hangs on Stun No. 9 St. Johns and stops the dominant run of the Red Storm in the big east

Rick Pitino’s winning streak in Big East is over.

Villanova held on the route in the Finnner Pavilion in the Finnner Pavilion on Wednesday to achieve a breathtaking 73-71 victory against No. 9 St. John’s. This victory, which is the best of the year after a largely disappointing run in the Big East, grabbed the 10-game winning shop of the Red Storm and opened the race in the conference in the last month of the season.

The wildcats ran away almost twice on Wednesday evening. Shortly before half -time they jumped up by 10 points, but the red storm gathered and cut it back in a single possession with a quick run before the break. Villanova opened an 11-point lead in the middle of the second half, but let St. John’s back in a long 14-0 run.

St. Johns had several chances of having control over the game in the last few minutes, but it stumbled repeatedly and let the wildcats hang, gave up several wide -open rebounds and confiscated bad sales. St. Johns finally took the lead from a Clutch Simeon Wilcher 3-pointer directly within the 30-second mark, but Tyler Perkins replied at the other end with a deep 3 pointer. That brought the wildcats by two points with a lead of only 9 seconds.

Wilcher had a last look at a game winner for the red storm, almost the same place where he met the previous one, but he was out of the footstep in the summer. This sealed the two-point victory for the wildcats.

Wooga Poplar led Villanova with 22 points and six rebounds after shot 9 out of 14. Eric Dixon added 17 points and Jordan Longino ended with 13 points. Villanova has now won three in a row after lost five out of six. The wildcats organize a 15-10 record, 8-6 in Big East Play, which takes fifth place and fights for the last bye in the Big East Conference tournament next month.

Aaron Scott led St. Johns with 22 points in the defeat, which set the red storm in the season to 21: 4 and 12: 2 in the league game, which is still good for first place and a game in front of Creighton. St. Johns had climbed into the top 10 in the national ranking for the first time in decades. Kadary Richmond added 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Wilcher ended with 12 points for St. John’s

While the group of Pitino should be okay – and still the advantage in the conference, which occurs on Sunday with No. 24 Creighton – the game on Wednesday should give the wildcats a massive thrust for your search, one for the first time Secure space in the NCAA tournament under head coach Kyle Neptune. If you are finished in the next few weeks, a tournament place is absolutely within reach.
