Virginia man charged with murder of wife after police discover his chilling 11-word Google search – felony

A Virginia man has been charged with the murder of his missing wife after investigators found a revealing 11-word Google search in his internet history.

Naresh Bhatt was charged with first-degree murder and physical defilement of a corpse on Monday (December 2) following the disappearance of his wife Mamta Kafle Bhatt, who was last seen on July 29.

The 28-year-old woman was first reported missing on Aug. 5 after she failed to show up for work, prompting local police in Manassas Park to conduct a well-being check.

During the check, Naresh told authorities that he and Mamta, who have a one-year-old child together, were in the process of separating.

However, on August 22, the husband was charged with hiding a body after authorities found evidence that a body had been dragged from the couple’s shared home.

The additional charges filed Monday came as prosecutors made a series of allegations against Bhatt, alleging he conducted a suspicious Internet search in April, months before Naresh’s disappearance.

In the search, Bhatt wrote, “How long does it take to get married after the death of one’s spouse?”

The husband also reportedly searched for “what happens to his late spouse’s debts.”

On July 30, Naresh is accused of visiting a Walmart in Chantilly, Virginia on July 30 to purchase three knives. The next day, he allegedly went to another Walmart to buy cleaning supplies.

After Mamta’s disappearance, Naresh allegedly stopped at a gas station in Loudoun County and threw a blood-stained bath mat into a donation bin. He was also seen throwing bags into a trash compactor while wearing gloves.

Further evidence against Bhatt comes from the amount of blood allegedly found in the couple’s master bedroom and bathroom. Prosecutors say this is an indication that Bhatt killed his wife.

However, Bhatt’s lawyers argued that Mamta was still alive as no body was found during the investigation.

Police have conducted at least 27 searches for Mamta but have had no luck finding her.

Holly Wirth, Kafle Bhatt’s friend and former co-worker, said she and the community are “very pleased” that additional charges have been filed against Bhatt.

“As a community that loves Mamta, we are very pleased that the additional charges have been brought,” she said: “It sadly highlights the terrible things we suspected happened to Mamta, and we want that Naresh Bhatt will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

After Mamta’s disappearance, a GoFundMe page was set up with the goal of helping her young daughter “thrive.”
