Virginia ended a bit of a scoring drought when Isaac McKneely hit a very deep and hard-contested three-pointer at the end of the shot clock. Anthony Robinson is in the game for Virginia and made a few good plays defensively, got a rebound and now caused an offensive foul on Yigitoglu in the post. Ishan Sharma squirts a threesome; He also made a good defensive play a few possessions earlier, swatting the ball away from Boopie Miller. Elijah Saunders hit a three-pointer, but the referees say it was just after the buzzer. UVA ended the first half with a 6-0 run and entered halftime trailing by just two points.

Cofie finds TJ Power at the top of the key and Power hits the open three-pointer, a great sign for the Duke transfer who had trouble shooting the ball. Yigitoglu is back on the field and scoring inside, which already gives him nine points today. Buchanan misses a fadeaway jumper and then fouls Yigitoglu, who makes a half free throw. Chuck Harris uses a nice dribbling move to find a path to the basket for a layup. Rohde turns the ball over and Boopie Biller hits the other way, leading to a layup and a careless foul on McKneely. Taine Murray attacks in transition and scores through contact on the glass. Oquendo pulls the trigger from the right wing and swings his second three-pointer. He’s a better than 50% three-point shooter this season and Virginia needs to fend off that openness for him.

Both teams begin the game with an open look at their centers rolling to the basket out of a pick-and-roll. Isaac McKneely finds Blake Buchanan for a dunk to tie the score, and then Samet Yigitoglu is fouled on the way to the basket and makes a half free throw. Yigitoglu gets free again on SMU’s next possession and hits home a dunk. Dai Dai Ames hits a mid-range jumper to put UVA back in the lead. Yigitoglu scores with a jump hook over Buchanan. Andrew Rohde hits to the edge and hits with his palm. McKneely drives to the rim and scores with a slick finish. Yigitoglu scores again for the Mustangs and has all seven points.
