Visual Studio Copilot improves the search for function, links, slash commands

The Visual Studio DEV team from Microsoft has worked on the next publication of its flagship-ide, Visual Studio 2022 V17.13, whereby the focus is on improving the Github Copilot AI-powered coding assistant.

After sending V17.12 last November, the team delivered three preliminary views last week.

The big news for the next publication is already known: a free Github copilot. “We are pleased to announce a new free plan for Github Copilot, which is available for everyone in Visual Studio today. Everything you need is a Github account. No test version. No subscription.” Said that, “said that Company.

Here you will find a summary of what COPILOT is still new in the Preview version notices:

AI improved feature search
You can now ask GitHub Copilot to receive detailed answers for your questions.

Github Copilot now offers detailed answers for queries in Visual Studio through Feature search. If you are not safe via a menu element, an command or a functional name, you can use the “ask Copilot” button in the function search to send your query to the copilot chat. It interprets the semantic importance of your query, takes into account your visual studio version and offers precise, context-conscious answers without leaving the IDE. This integration improves your workflow by offering immediate support, e.g. B. the identification and explanation of settings such as “format document” when looking for terms such as “Prettify file”.

Github Copilot Connections
New keyboard links for threads in the Github Copilot Chat.

Github Copilot Chat now contains new keyboard linkages for navigating threads:

  • Ctrl+N: Start a new thread
  • Ctrl+PGDown: Move to the previous thread (cycles over the first thread)
  • Ctrl+Pgup: Go to the next thread (cycles over the last thread)))
  • Ctrl+shift+t: Expand and concentrate the thread dropdown

These links only work if the Copilot Chat area is active and can be adapted in Visual Studio’s key binding dialog.

Slash command enlargements
Improve the slash by expanding into the natural language.

Slash commands have been improved to expand in natural language when users enter, include the active context and display in the command request. This improvement offers users:

  • A clearer understanding of the command.
  • Insight into the context that the command is used.
  • The option to change the command prompt before they are sent.

Use GITHUB Copilot arrangements across files
More efficiently via several files.

Copilot edits the iteration via several files. This function combines the conversation flow of chat with an inline review experience and enables developers:

  • Preview with clarity: Take a look at a summary of the files concerned and proposed changes.
  • Rating with Flo: See code diffs inline, accept/reject changes individually with help TAB or Alt+DelOr apply all changes at the same time.
  • Repeat with confidence: Use checkpoints to visit previous file versions again or to examine alternative approaches.

At the beginning, describe your desired changes in the natural language and reference files, errors or solutions with the key “#”, just like in the copilot chat.
