Warm temperatures are expected for areas away from the coast on Saturday

Weather headlines:

– Above normal temperatures are expected over the weekend (except on our beaches), with highs in the 70s and lower 80s.

– Gusty winds are expected locally on Friday and Saturday, particularly in mountain and foothill areas.

-A pattern shift could result in a period of rain starting Friday the 13th.

Detailed forecast:

Above the surface, a ridge will extend across central California Friday night into Saturday.

A trough will then move across the inner west from Sunday to Monday.

Near the surface, weak offshore flow will continue through Saturday, transitioning to weak onshore flow on Sunday, but changing noticeably offshore again on Monday.

No significant problems are expected this evening.

Increasing pressure gradients offshore will produce some northeasterly winds throughout the area. However, the support at the upper level is not exciting.

Light offshore winds with widespread gusts of 25-35 mph are expected through Saturday, but in the windiest spots we will only have local gusts of up to 45 mph.

Given the weak nature of the offshore winds, marine inversion may continue south of Point Conception.

Friday night and Saturday morning there is a possibility of additional layered fog/dense fog developing along the coast.

Increasing cloudiness at high altitudes is expected across the region on Saturday night and Sunday.

Additionally, there will likely be some increase in low clouds and fog in the coastal plain at night/morning with neutral/weak onshore gradients.

Saturday temperatures will generally be a few degrees warmer west of the mountains, but slightly cooler inland.

On Sunday the temperatures will be a few degrees cooler during the day. Sunny skies are expected on Monday!
