Warwick boys overcome slow start to win basketball against Donegal (recap) | Basketball for boys

Several Lancaster-Lebanon League boys basketball teams were in nonleague action Saturday.

Warwick 67, Donegal 41

The Warriors overcame a 7-0 first quarter deficit with a 29-3 run en route to a loss to Donegal in a season-opening game at Warwick.

At one point in the game, Warwick held Donegal without a basket for 13 minutes.

Caleb Johnson topped the Warriors with 17 points. Parker Horst added 15 points and Ya’Majesty Washington contributed 11.

Sawyer Floyd led the Indians with 14 points.

Penn Wood 61, McCaskey 59

The Red Tornado, looking to start their season with a win, lost a hard-fought game to the Penn Wood Patriots on Saturday afternoon.

McCaskey, who led 30-28 at halftime, was unable to contain the three-headed monster of Penn Wood’s offense. Taj Cobbs (23 points), Malik Edwards (13 points) and Bellvin Smith (13 points) combined for 49 of the Patriots’ 61 points.

DeAndre Jones led McCaskey with 23 points and five three-pointers. Avery Stauffer and Jaloney Porter also contributed significantly to the Red Tornado attack, scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively. McCaskey only scored on five different players.

The Red Tornado will look to bounce back from a narrow loss when they travel to Dallastown on Tuesday.

Octorara 61, Downingtown East 58

Vito Vespe and Vincent Thaler each scored six points for Octorara in the fourth quarter, leading the Braves to a come-from-behind victory.

The Braves rallied from a 45-39 deficit early in the fourth quarter.

Vespe and Thaler each scored 15 points to lead the Braves. Karter Lambert added 11 points.

Brayden Phillips led Downington East with 20 points.
