Weather in Dallas: Thunderstorms with hail, unusually warm weather hit DFW

Through the numbers

Is it usually this warm in December? That’s the question many Dallas area residents were asking themselves after waking up to unseasonably warm temperatures Monday.

While mid-December temperatures in the 70s may feel strange, Dallas experienced similar conditions on this day last year.

On December 16, 2023, temperatures were also in the low 70s.

The average temperature on December 16th in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is typically around 68 degrees, meaning today’s temperatures are about 6 degrees warmer than usual, but not drastically.

Forecast today

Warm and rainy conditions are expected across the metroplex today, with a risk of thunderstorms.

Temperatures will remain in the mid 70s, with some areas possibly reaching the high 70s.

Spotty showers will hit North Texas this morning until about noon, followed by a break for a few hours.

Storms are expected to develop again this evening, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds and the possibility of small hail.

What’s next?

Tuesday morning will bring cooler temperatures in the low 40s and 50s, but a warm front will push temperatures back into the low 70s by the afternoon. The morning will be foggy, with scattered showers.

Wednesday brings cooler, cooler conditions with temperatures in the 50s and a 40-50% chance of rain throughout the day.

Be sure to grab an umbrella on Monday and Wednesday!
