Weekend snowfall forecast for Omaha

Weekend snowfall forecast for Omaha

NOW. OMAH’S WEATHER CHIEF, METEOROLOGIST LUKE VICKERY, WITH THE FORECAST. DO YOU TRUST? TODAY IS A COLD DAY WITH TEMPERATURES BELOW 20°C NEARBY. OUTSIDE. TOMORROW WILL BE SIMILAR BUT WE ALSO HAVE SOME WINTER WEATHER HEADLINES THAT WILL COME IN THE LATE EVENING HOURS WHERE WE WILL SEE REAL IMPACT. So we have a winter weather advisory that resembles a long I-80, including the Omaha Metro. YOU GO CONTINUE SOUTH INTO THE PINK SHADED AREA. THIS IS A WINTER STORM WARNING. This is somehow a step up. THEREFORE WE EXPECT THAT THE MOST OF THE SNOWFALL NUMBERS WILL REALLY INCREASE. The further south you go. IN ORDER. LET’S GO THROUGH THIS HERE ON STORM PREDICTOR. SHOW THEM SOMETHING OF THE TIME. AND IF YOU COULD SEE SOME HIGHER SNOWFALL RATES THAT MAY A LITTLE MORE IMPACT ON YOUR DAY OR EVENING. IN ORDER. So through this evening and most of the beginning of your Saturday it’s just cloudy, maybe a few gusts of wind earlier. BUT THE MAIN SNOWFALL COMES LATER 6:00 AM. You see it filling up a lot more as we get closer to 11:00 when your head starts hitting the pillow on your Saturday night. AND THEN AS WE COME TO SUNDAY YOU WILL SEE MORE FILTERS IN DRY AIR THAT WILL ACCEPT SOME OF THE SNOWFALL. BUT LOOK HERE SOUTH OF I-80. It’s filling in a bit with some snowfall rates that could still be robust and continue into your Sunday morning. BEFORE ALL THIS PUSHES SOUTH AND EAST. AND WE DRY THERE FOR THE LAST HALF OF YOUR SUNDAY. IN ORDER. So let’s zoom out a little bit. This is the same forecasting model that just shows you the big picture here. So when you think that our snowfall total is high, what I mean is that Kansas City is really the largest city that’s affected by this because there’s a mix of rain and snow and then you get more snowfall and the heavier bands of snowfall directly over Kansas City. The limiting factor for us could be dry air coming from the north. AND IF THAT HAPPENS, IT COULD CREATE NEWS TO SOME OF OUR SNOWFALL COUNTS. But as this area rises with lower pressure, stronger vibrations, and more moisture, it could overcome some of that dry air. I think OMAHA might be on the higher side of that range, maybe towards 10 inches. MORE DRY AIR WOULD MEAN CLOSER 2.5 INCHES OF SNOWFALL, BUT ANOTHER AREA OF UNCERTAINTY IS THAT YOU CAN SEE THE SLOWING SLIDING GRADIENT FROM 1 TO 4 INCHES AND MAYBE 5100 MILES SOUTH. THE 6 TO 12 INCH RANGE. So if the system shifts a little north, Omaha could see more snowfall, just a little south would be less. So we’ll pay attention to that. ALTHOUGH WE ARE CONFIDENT IN THE FORECAST WE HAVE RIGHT NOW THAT IT IS PRETTY GOOD. BUT IT’S NEVER PERFECT IN WINTER WEATHER, 20 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND NORTH BREEZE AT 13 MILES PER HOUR. Pretty quiet for us. The system we’re paying attention to has still moved quite far north and west and is once again trying to make its way over the Rocky Mountains. TODAY A LITTLE EARLIER BUT NOT MUCH FEATURES. Temperatures are pretty cold right now, into the 20s. THE YOUNGSTERS. Look at Carroll. How about nine degrees? It’s pretty cold outside. COLD TO START THE DAY EVEN IN THE MORNING. It’s just cloudy outside to start the day. We’re not worried about snowfall yet, and even if we get to our high temperatures tomorrow, we probably won’t be worried about snowfall yet, either at 20 degrees. But the later the day gets on Saturday, the more the overnight stays become. SNOWFALL RATES COULD INCREASE A LITTLE THERE. We made Sunday a severe weather day because we believe that’s where the impacts will occur. A LOT OF SNOW COULD FALL YOUR SUNDAY MORNING, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE FURTHER SOUTH OF I-80, UNDER THE WINTER STORM WARNING. BUT AFTER EVERYTHING IS CLEARED, YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF SNOW CLEARING AND ORGANIZING THINGS. And hopefully Monday looks a little better. BUT THEN THE COLD AIR RETURNS AND WE SEE SOME MORNINGS BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES AND COOLING WIND. SO WE HAVE WEATHER EFFECTS IN THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. IN ORDER. THIS IS AL
