Weinbergmann sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of his young daughter | News, sports, jobs

A judge sentenced a Vineyard man Tuesday to 25 years to life in prison for killing his infant daughter.

Alexzander Sean Berry, 29, pleaded guilty Sept. 10 to aggravated murder, a first-degree felony.

Fourth District Judge Denis Porter said the devastation of the incident was “overwhelming” and told Berry he was not fit to be a father, according to KSL.com.

“This child seemingly had no chance at all from day one,” Porter said Tuesday in American Fork District Court.

The victim, Alexis Menengwa Berry, died on July 26, 2023 when she was 4 months old.

According to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, Orem Fire Department officers and paramedics responded last year to a report of a toddler who was unconscious in their Vineyard home. She was taken to Timpanogos Hospital in Orem, where she was pronounced dead.

Doctors determined the toddler had suffered serious blunt force injuries to the side of his head, the sheriff’s office said. Berry initially told investigators he hit the infant in the head with his fist, choked him and hit his head against the wall of the crib.

The child’s mother, Myra Jane Megan, 26, was sentenced to zero to five years in prison in June after pleading guilty to aggravated child abuse and obstruction of justice. According to the sheriff’s department, Megan took no action to stop the abuse and did not report what she saw to police.
